Moments of solitude reflecting deep emotions in a womans battle with depression

Therapy for Depression in Raleigh

At Jasper Psychotherapy & Co., we understand that depression can affect individuals of all ages, including children, teens, and young adults. Depression is more than just feeling sad or down—it can lead to emotional, physical, and behavioral changes that impact daily functioning, relationships, and overall well-being.

If your child is struggling with depression, our goal is to provide the support needed to understand, manage, and overcome symptoms of depression, while fostering hope, resilience, and long-term emotional health.

How Depression Affects Children, Teens, and Young Adults

Depression in children and adolescents can look different than in adults. Some common signs include:

  • Persistent Sadness: Feeling hopeless, empty, or constantly ‘down’.
  • Loss of Interest: Losing interest in activities or hobbies that were once enjoyable, such as school, socializing, or sports.
  • Changes in Sleep or Appetite: Sleeping too much or too little, or experiencing significant changes in eating habits.
  • Low Energy and Fatigue: Struggling to get through daily tasks due to feeling physically or emotionally drained.
  • Irritability or Anger: Expressing frustration, irritability, or anger, sometimes in ways that seem disproportionate to the situation.
  • Social Withdrawal: Avoiding friends, family, or social activities.
  • Thoughts of Death or Suicide: Having thoughts of not wanting to live or self-harm (if this is a concern, please seek immediate help).

These symptoms can interfere with school performance, friendships, and family life. Without proper treatment, depression can worsen over time. At Jasper Psychotherapy & Co., we are committed to helping individuals understand and cope with depression, and we are here to guide you toward healing.

Who We Help

We provide depression therapy for:

Children

We help children experiencing depression by addressing symptoms such as irritability, frequent sadness, fatigue, and social interaction. Through age-appropriate therapeutic approaches, we support emotional expression and build foundational coping skills, while partnering with parents to foster a nurturing and responsive home environment.

Teens

We support teens dealing with depression, including feelings of emptiness, hopelessness, changes in sleep or appetite, and social isolation. Therapy focuses on emotional awareness, stress management, and building a sense of connection and purpose, while guiding families in providing consistent support and open communication.

Young Adults
(Ages 18–23)

We work with young adults navigating depression, helping them manage symptoms like low motivation, lack of interest, self-doubt, and feelings of disconnection. Our goal is to strengthen emotional regulation, and promote healthy habits, with family involvement when helpful for overall support.

Parents

We support parents of children experiencing depression by providing strategies to help manage symptoms like low energy, self-doubt, and emotional overwhelm. Our approach empowers you to build coping skills, resilience, and a nurturing, supportive environment for both you and your child.

We create a safe, supportive space where every client feels heard and empowered to make meaningful changes.

Our Approach to Treating Depression

At Jasper Psychotherapy & Co., we provide a compassionate, individualized approach to treating depression. We understand that depression can stem from a variety of factors, including genetics, trauma, and environmental stressors, and that each individual’s experience with depression is unique. Our services are designed to address the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral aspects of depression to help individuals lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Depression

CBT is one of the most effective treatments for depression. It helps individuals identify negative thought patterns and replace them with more balanced, realistic perspectives. CBT also focuses on behavioral changes to increase engagement in positive activities and reduce withdrawal and isolation.

2. Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)

IPT focuses on improving relationships and communication with others, as depression often involves interpersonal struggles. By addressing social isolation, grief, role transitions, and interpersonal conflicts, IPT helps individuals improve their mood and overall well-being.

3. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

MBCT combines mindfulness practices with elements of CBT to help individuals become more aware of their thoughts and feelings. By learning how to observe emotions without judgment, clients can break free from the cycle of rumination and negative thinking that often accompanies depression.

4. Family Therapy

Depression affects the entire family. Family therapy helps families better understand how depression impacts their loved one, while improving communication, supporting emotional healing, and fostering healthier relationships.

5. Psychoeducation and Support Groups

Understanding depression is an essential part of healing. We offer psychoeducation sessions to help individuals and families understand the nature of depression, its causes, and how to cope effectively. Additionally, group therapy or support groups provide a sense of community and connection with others facing similar challenges.
